2024 saw the Birmingham Commonwealth Assoc celebrate its 10th birthday as a functioning body. Clearly, we have come a long way since our founding having achieved numerous positive outcomes not only in our main areas of focus, trade, education and diaspora but beyond. Our Commonwealth Day service and dinner are the highlight of each year when we come together to celebrate this worldwide family of 56 nations and the progress it has made and is making in providing a better life for both its people and the world as a whole.
2024 also sees the modern Commonwealth celebrating its 75th anniversary. Founded in 1949, we, the BCA, share in celebrating this significant milestone, reflecting on the Commonwealth’s legacy, enduring values and ongoing commitment to promoting democracy, development and peace across the globe.
Can I thank our Board of Directors, Committee Chairs, members, sponsors, partners and supporters for all of their support over the last ten years. We are proud of our contribution to date to Birmingham but are not complacent. There is more we can do and should be doing tin the spirit of partnership and collaboration to help make this city of ours and the Commonwealth per se a better place to live, work and play in.
