Commonwealth House, Birmingham – Let’s make it more than just an idea!
As we all are aware, Birmingham has the enormous privilege of hosting the Commonwealth Games in next year. The Birmingham Commonwealth Association (BCA), along with others, lobbied the government some years back for this international multi-sport event involving athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations, to come to Birmingham and we look forward to it with great enthusiasm.
Hosting the games presents an incredible opportunity to raise Birmingham’s profile, highlighting the city as a very desirable place to invest, live and work in. The games will act as a catalyst, strengthening trade, investment and tourism opportunities alongside creating the conditions for economic and social regeneration. Most importantly, it will leave a lasting positive legacy for its super diverse community and for the towns and cities in the West Midlands.
The BCA sees next year as the ideal opportunity to build upon the legacy of the games by establishing a modern city centre commonwealth hub of facilities, a ‘Commonwealth House’. The house will provide a home for Commonwealth initiatives, be that in relation to trade, investment, academia to name a few, where guests, visiting trade delegations, dignitaries, business and others with a commonwealth related agenda can come to meet/discuss/work within minutes of New Street Station, the Council House and all that the city centre infrastructure can offer.
Birmingham City Council are supportive of this initiative. We have a particular building in mind at the very centre of Birmingham’s bustling Business District incorporating grade A office space with shared reception facilities and break out areas, a stunning top floor restaurant, wifi, a business lounge, shower and changing facilities and unusually, open 24 hours a day seven days a week.
We are certain that having such facilities in such a prime location will be a valuable resource; however, in order to make it a reality we need your and the support of others. Accordingly, can we invite you to drop us a line please, by letter or email, confirming that support. Let’s make it more than just an idea.
Yours sincerely
